Man dies after being hit by car 'speeding down wrong side of the road' in Logan

A man has died after being hit by a car allegedly speeding down the wrong side of the road in Logan, south of Brisbane.

Witnesses have told 9NEWS they saw a blue Honda Civic mount a median strip at an intersection around one kilometre away from the smash scene, before it continued at high speed through oncoming traffic.

The 72-year-old woman accused of being behind the wheel was rushed to hospital with serious abdominal and chest injuries, after being pulled out of her crumpled car by bystanders.

The 22-year-old man in the other car died at the scene. 

“It was terrible,” witness Jenny Read told 9NEWS.

“We looked out the bathroom window and saw all stuff flying up in the air.”

“My brother went over to help her and there’s quite a few people that stopped.”

Another witness said it was lucky the female driver didn’t kill anybody else while driving down the wrong side of the road.

“It might have been worse – there could have been a young family or something in a car," they said.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the crash which happened on the corner of Logan and Levington Roads in Eight Mile Plains around 9.45am.

Officers are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward, as they work to determine why the woman was travelling on the wrong side of the road.
