Large drug syndicate busted in north Qld

The arrest of ten men allegedly involved in a large scale drug syndicate will significantly effect the supply of ice in Queensland's north, police say.

The men, aged between 21 and 66, were arrested in Townsville and Charters Towers and charged with trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs following a 12-month police operation targeting methylamphetamine distribution in the area.

One of the men, aged 28, was charged with 28 offences, while a 66-year-old was charged with 17 offences. Both men will face court on Wednesday.

Senior Sergeant Mick Walker said further charges can be expected, with the other men set to appear in courts over the next fortnight.

"The recent arrests, and our ongoing investigations, will have serious impacts upon the distribution of these illicit and harmful drugs into communities in the North," Senior Sergeant Walker said.
