Queensland hasn't had a privacy commissioner for more than three years and the government is urgently looking for someone to fill the role.

Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath says the former LNP government's failure to appoint a privacy commissioner has put extreme pressure on the information commissioner, who's had to do both jobs.

She told a budget estimates hearing the position - responsible for reviewing government decisions and breaches involving private and personal information - will be filled as soon as possible
