Slain Korean had choking injuries: court

A South Korean man killed after advertising online, offering to swap a large sum of cash, had injuries consistent with choking, a Brisbane court has heard.

Details of the autopsy on 28-year-old Min Tae Kim emerged at a committal hearing for his accused murderer, fellow South Korean national Sanghyun Hwang.

The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard Mr Kim was found to have suffered injuries consistent with neck compression from a choke hold or a ligature.

He vanished in December 2013 after using the internet in a bid to exchange thousands of Australian dollars in cash for Korean currency.

Mr Kim's body was found in a shallow grave on a vacant property in Algester, in Brisbane's south, on December 19, 2013, three days after failing to return from the arranged cash exchange meeting.

He had been planning to return to South Korea.

Hwang, 30, was charged with murder on December 20, 2013.

On Wednesday, Hwang was committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court in Brisbane by magistrate Anne Thacker, with consent from Hwang's lawyer.

The accused man appeared in the dock accompanied by an interpreter and did not enter a plea.

A trial date has not been set.
