A jury set to resume deliberations into whether a former Queensland police prosecutor is guilty of misconduct after he allegedly helped an old school friend who was facing a driving charge.

Martin Longhurst has pleaded not guilty to official misconduct after being accused of acting with dishonest intent by deleting a circumstance of aggravation from a friend's driving charge, while he was working as a police prosecutor in February 2016.

His Brisbane District Court trial has heard Longhurst deleted words from a charge against the man, which alleged he was a repeat unlicensed driver.

"The issue is not what Mr Longhurst did. The issue is why he did it," prosecutor Mark Green told the jury last week.

The trial heard evidence that police officers and prosecutors have a degree of discretion with the charges they pursue.
