Jury retires in Qld gran murder trial

A jury has retired to deliberate in the case of a junk mail delivery man accused of the bludgeoning murder of a Queensland grandmother.

Steven Mark John Fennell, 56, has pleaded not guilty to the November 2012 murder of Liselotte Watson on Macleay Island, in Moreton Bay.

After receiving Justice Martin Daubney's summing up, a Supreme Court jury in Brisbane retired at 4.40pm (AEST) to consider its verdict.

The jurors were sent home at 5.30pm (AEST) and will resume their deliberations on Friday morning.

Before they retired, Justice Daubney told them the case against Fennell was entirely circumstantial and that they must be assured beyond reasonable doubt he murdered the elderly woman in order to return a guilty verdict.
