Qld jury discharged in manslaughter trial

A jury sitting in a trial of three people accused of killing a man in a violent Gold Coast robbery following a drug and sex bender has been discharged.

The Brisbane Supreme Court trial of Benjamin Samy Ghobrial, Milan Chante Walker and Lee Benjamin Feld began last week but was halted on Tuesday when the jury was sent home without returning a verdict.

The trio were on trial after the naked body of Gregory John Hudson, 57, was found face down with bound hands on the floor of spare room at a friend's Varsity Lakes townhouse in October 2014.

Ghobrial and Walker admitted to stealing from him.

But they and Feld deny a charge of robbing Mr Hudson in company with personal violence.

All three pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.

When the trial opened last Tuesday, crown prosecutor Philip McCarthy told the jury the trio plotted to rob the FIFO carpenter.

During a cocaine binge in the days before he died, Mr Hudson had bought sex from Walker several times.

On the morning he died he persuaded her to visit the townhouse and said he would pay for sex with cocaine, the court heard.

Walker later told police that while she was performing oral sex on Mr Hudson two men broke into his friend's home, the trial was told.

During a violent assault he was gagged and restrained and possibly punched, Mr McCarthy said.

He told the jury this strained the enlarged heart of Mr Hudson and, coupled with his prolonged excessive cocaine use, may have lead to his death.

An autopsy revealed he had levels of cocaine in his system that were in the lethal range for someone without his heart condition.

The matter will return to court next week.
