A British man who tried to outrun Australian law on a jet ski has been ordered to face outstanding drugs charges.

David Jackson, 57, will face court in Western Australia on Monday after an extradition hearing in Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday.

Jackson made headlines this week with his audacious bid to flee from the tip of Queensland, across the Torres Strait to Papua New Guinea.

Armed with a crossbow, he took off from Cape York on a jet ski packed with supplies for the 140-kilometre journey to PNG.

But he was nabbed just a few kilometres shy of his goal on mudflats on the eastern side of Saibai Island.

Police said Jackson's activities had raised suspicion with authorities and locals who monitored his journey until they got him.

Jackson was brought before a Cairns magistrate on Friday, when he was remanded into the custody of West Australian police and ordered to face court in Perth on April 1.
