Ipswich Council boss charged by CCC

Ipswich city council is facing further embarrassment, with another council employee charged with official corruption.

A 53-year-old Karana Downs man was charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission on Thursday.

Media reports suggest the man is the council's CEO Jim Lindsay.

The council employee was arrested at Council offices on Thursday afternoon and taken to the Ipswich watchhouse to be charged before being given a notice to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 11 October.

It comes a day after Ipswich City Council's Chief Operating Officer of works, parks and recreation, Craig Maudsley, was charged with misconduct in relation to public office.

It's alleged Maudsley intentionally abused his authority to benefit a businessman for a council contract over a more deserving business.

It also follows the departure of former mayor Paul Pisasale, who was charged with extortion by the corruption watchdog in June, weeks after announcing his resignation, although his case is not believed to be linked to that of Maudsley or Lindsay.

New Mayor Andrew Antoniolli has promised to introduce a suite of changes aimed at stamping out corruption and improving the council's reputation going forward.
