Iconic Gold Coast nightclub calls last drinks after 36 years
Cocktails, one of Australia’s longest-running nightclubs, has closed its doors.
The Surfers Paradise institution, originally known as Cocktails and Dreams, revealed it had called last drinks on Saturday in a post to social media.

“Tonight is the final goodbye, doors close on Cocktails nightclub for the final time,” a post to Instagram read.
“We hope you can join us tonight for the final curtain.
“We would like to thank all our staff and everyone who has made Cocktails what it has been for the last 30 years.”
The post gave no reason for the sudden closure.
The beloved venue opened its doors on Orchid Avenue in 1989.
It was owned by Lino Girardi until it was sold last year.

Patrons of the venue have taken to social media to express their sadness.
“Truly heartbreaking,” a woman named Taneisha wrote on Instagram.
“My parents met at Cocktail (sic) and Dreams.
“Me and my partner met at Cocktails.
“Thank you for bringing me life Cocktails and for bringing me my life partner.”
DJs also took to Instagram to thank the club for kickstarting their careers.
“My first ever DJ residency,” Trent Redman wrote.
“Safe to say kicked off my career thank you cocktails!”
The club is the latest in a series of closures in Surfers Paradise in recent years, including the iconic Melbas, formerly Melbas on the Park, which closed in 2020 after 39 years.
