Hockey urges voters to re-elect Newman

Treasurer Joe Hockey expects a "natural re-balancing" at the Queensland election but has urged voters not to abandon the Liberal National government.

Mr Hockey said on Friday that economic conditions, including job losses in the state's mining sector, would also be a factor in the election.

He said Queensland's coal sector alone had shed more than 15,000 jobs in the past two years amid falling commodity prices, and there were more headwinds from the sluggish global economy.

"There is inevitably going to be a reaction from the community, as there would be a natural re-balancing of the numbers in the Queensland parliament," Mr Hockey told reporters at a building site in western Sydney.

But the treasurer said Queenslanders should re-elect Premier Campbell Newman, because he had a plan to create jobs.

"I say to the people of Queensland, don't abandon a good government tomorrow," Mr Hockey said.

"Do not walk away from the only political party, the LNP, that actually has a plan for the future of Queensland that is actually going to create jobs."
