Head-on crash kills woman in southeast Qld

A German man has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly crossing to the wrong side of the road and causing a head-on collision that killed a woman in southeast Queensland.

Emergency crews were called to the New England Highway 4km south of Stanthorpe after a station wagon driven by the 21-year-old man collided with the 44-year-old woman's car on Wednesday evening.

Paramedics were unable to revive the Wallangarra woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The station wagon driver and two male passengers were taken to Stanthorpe hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver was "on the incorrect side of the road before crashing head-on into another vehicle".

He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and is due to appear before the Warwick Magistrates Court on Thursday.
