Mining services firm Hastings Deering is laying off about 100 workers in Queensland.

The Brisbane-based company has blamed continued market downturn, aggressive competition and price pressures for the retrenchments.

Managing director Dean Mehmet says customers are running leaner operations and asking Hastings Deering to re-tender at much lower prices.

"It has never been more critical to meet the market head-on and remain a secure, sustainable and competitive operation," he told AAP.

"We are doing this by increasing efficiencies, offering greater flexibility to our customers and repositioning our cost base."

Mr Mehmet promised the company would do everything it could to keep as many people employed as possible.

Hastings Deering has slashed wages and cut more than 700 jobs in Queensland since 2012.
