Hand gestures ruffle Qld parly feathers

Queensland opposition MPs will likely be on their best behaviour in parliament on Friday after a reminder that chamber cameras see all - including simulated masturbation.

Footage of Wednesday's sitting showed Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek making a rude hand gesture immediately after Speaker Peter Wellington reprimanded Chatsworth MP Steve Minnikin for provoking government MPs with other "hand movements".

He was later filmed by television cameras repeating the action.

Mr Langbroek wouldn't discuss the matter with journalists but agreed to speak to his sister Kate on her nationally-syndicated radio show on Thursday.

"I forgot about the camera," he said.

"I was just having a laugh."

Labor's Education Minister Kate Jones didn't see it that way and has written to Mr Wellington.

"My concern is that the Member for Surfers Paradise immediately disregarded your ruling and, as such, I believe it is a reflection on the chair," she told parliament.

Opposition leader Tim Nicholls said he would remind Mr Langbroek of appropriate parliamentary standards.
