Gunman faces charges in Qld and NSW

A man armed with a gun who tried to outrun police after they used tyre spikes to stop his four-wheel drive and camper trailer in a Queensland town now faces serious charges in two states.

Queensland Police allege the man ignored their instructions to stop near Goondiwindi on Wednesday night.

They used spikes to halt his vehicle when they caught up with him again in the nearby town of Toobeah.

The 59-year-old, who was armed with a rifle, tried to flee on foot but was arrested at the scene.

He's facing charges including assaulting police while armed.

NSW Police say they'll seek the Fassifern Valley man's extradition at the conclusion of legal action in Queensland.

Police first began following the 59-year-old at Boggabilla, in northern NSW, early on Tuesday morning after he allegedly sped off from a breath test.

They were forced to terminate the chase when the man allegedly pointed a rifle at a police vehicle.
