'Gunman' charged over Qld police assaults

A Queensland man has been arrested after allegedly pulling a handgun on a startled motorist and then assaulting two Sunshine Coast police officers.

Police say the Golden Beach man, 23, drew the weapon and demanded the 60-year-old driver to hop out of his car after being refused a lift from Mountain Creek to Sippy Downs on Wednesday morning.

The driver accelerated away and reported the incident to police who later attempted to detain him.

It's alleged he assaulted two officers, inflicting facial injuries to a 38-year-old male senior constable, before being arrested.

He was charged with attempted armed robbery, serious assault police causing bodily harm, two counts of assault police and unlawful entry of a vehicle.

The 23-year-old will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.
