A grass fire has blanketed part of the Pacific Highway with smoke, creating a hazard for Gold Coast motorists.

The smoke around Mudgeeraba is slowing down traffic, and police are urging people to drive with caution.

Firefighters have been working to put out the blaze, which poses no threat to homes.
