Govt plans forum after horror Easter toll

A Queensland government forum will be created to improve road safety after the state recorded its worst Easter road toll in more than 20 years.

Eight people died during the holiday period, which is the highest number since seasonal records began in 1992.

The state result was well above the 20-year average of 3-3.5 deaths each Easter.

It was largely attributable to the bad decisions of drivers, Acting Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating said on Monday.

Queensland's peak road safety organisations RACQ and CARRS-Q would be called to top-level talks on road safety, Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said on Tuesday.

They would advise the new Safer Roads, Safer Queensland forum.

"Let's look at what works, what can work better and what steps need to be taken to curb this alarming spike in the state's road toll," Mr Bailey said.
