Gold Coast woman spends nearly seven hours trapped in upturned car after it slides down embankment

A woman has been rescued after spending nearly seven hours inside her car after it fell down an embankment on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to an Amulla Court property in Mudgeeraba around 7.15pm last night after the 65-year-old woman’s son found the wreckage.

He had begun a search after he returned from work and was unable to locate her.

The car was discovered more than six hours after it slid down the hill and rolled onto its side.

Queensland Ambulance operations supervisor Paul Young said the woman’s car had come to rest against a tree.

“On our arrival we found a car on its side approximately 10-15m down a steep embankment on its side,” he said.  

She was eventually pulled to safety, with rescue crews forced to cut open the car's roof to free her.

The woman suffered a fractured ankle and was transferred to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
