Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on NSW's north coast over a violent death on the Gold Coast.

Dre Nova, 38, was found with serious upper-body injuries at a Surfers Paradise home at 5pm on Friday, and was dead by the time emergency services arrived.

About 5.10pm on Sunday, NSW Police officers arrested a 26-year-old Queensland man in a car park on the Pacific Highway in Coffs Harbour.

The man is due to appear before the Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday where Queensland detectives will apply for his extradition.

Earlier on Sunday, Gold Coast police said they believed a 26-year-old man wanted for questioning over a violent death may be in NSW.

Acting Detective Inspector Matthew Ward said he was known to the victim, and was at the property around the time of the incident.

"He will be able to contribute significantly to us developing a greater understanding of the injuries which were sustained to Dre Nova," he said.

A post-mortem was being carried out on Mr Nova's body on Sunday.
