Gold Coast community reveals name for beloved seal
A seal living in canals on the Gold Coast has been named, after residents embraced the mammal as one of their own.
The 18-month-old was first spotted last week at Lake Orr in Varsity Lakes and residents launched a vote to name their new neighbour.
It was given the name Looseal, possibly a reference to cult comedy favourite Arrested Development.

The seal was spotted in recent days slipping into the shallows for a drip and hopping on the rocks for a stretch and a snooze.
The Sea World team has been monitoring it closely.
Over the next few days workers will find the safest way to capture the seal before releasing it back into the ocean.
It is not uncommon for the species to be spotted on the coast but for Varsity Lakes, which is at least three kilometres from the coast as the crow flies and much further swimming through the canals, it is believed to be a first.
The advice for locals is to keep their distance from the mammal and continue to report sightings to Sea World.
