Man questioned over fatal Gold Coast balcony fall denies involvement

A Gold Coast man questioned over the death of a New Zealand tourist has denied having anything to do with her fatal fall from his apartment balcony.

Warriena Tagpuno Wright, 26, fell to her death from the 14th floor of Avalon Apartments in Surfers Paradise around 2.30am on Friday, after reportedly arranging a meetup on the dating app Tinder.

Gable Tostee, 28, the man interviewed by police but released without charge, has taken to an online bodybuilding forum to insist he had nothing to do with her sudden death, Brisbane Times reported.

“I've been advised not to go into details but all I will say is that I absolutely did NOT cause this girl to fall and that I am devastated about what happened to her,” he wrote.

Ms Wright spent the night with Mr Tostee at his apartment, but he was not there when police arrived at the scene.

He was questioned on Friday and has since been staying at his parents’ house.

Police seized security footage from the entrance gate of the complex where his parents live yesterday.

It is understood detectives visited the property a short time later.

On the morning of Ms Wright’s death, witnesses were woken by loud screams and raised voices echoing from the 14th floor of Avalon Apartments around 2.20am.

"I heard her screaming once, then she stopped. Then she screamed and then she stopped again. I think she screamed a third time and after that I heard a bang," witness Tania said.

"Very upsetting, very upsetting, I couldn't believe it."

Mr Tostee was found guilty, along with two mates, of making hundreds of fake ID cards for underage Schoolies eight years ago.

The scheme netted them $30,000.
