Global mayors arrive for Brisbane summit

Almost 100 mayors from around the world have arrived in Brisbane for a four-day summit with a heavy stress on "serious business".

The mayors are among delegates from 135 cities attending the 2015 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors Forum, which runs until Wednesday.

Urbanisation will be among the topics up for debate at the event, which is held biennially, with guest speakers to include London Olympics organising committee chairman Lord Sebastian Coe and Zuckerberg Media chief executive Randi Zuckerberg.

But Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says delegates will do more than just listen to interesting speeches because serious business is also on the agenda.

"Visiting delegations are coming to Brisbane because they want to do business, seek new partners, opportunities and technologies right here, right now," he said.

"Serious business transactions will be negotiated during the summit and will deliver considerable, ongoing economic benefits for the people of Brisbane."
