German backpacker stranded on Qld island

A German backpacker stranded on an island in the Whitsundays during Tropical Cyclone Iris will have to wait for help because a rescue helicopter has been unable to reach him.
The chopper could not land on Gloucester Island on Tuesday due to wild winds and poor visibility.
Authorities who spoke to the backpacker said he was in good spirits and safe, with contact expected to resume on Wednesday.
