He was a hit with the public and now Gold Coast Commonwealth Games mascot Borobi the koala has delivered a boon to his wild brethren.

Games organisers delivered a $100,000 donation to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation (CWHF) on Thursday for the treatment and rehabilitation of koalas on the Gold Coast.

The money was raised through the sale of Borobi merchandise during the Games.

The blue koala mascot was a popular item for young and old, with plush figures selling out long before the Games themselves finished on April 15.

The CWHF treats and rehabilitates over 9000 native animals each year and is operated by the National Trust of Australia.
