Accused balcony killer Gable Tostee 'to stay off Tinder' if granted bail

Gold Coast man Gable Tostee is due to learn if he'll be released from prison on bail over the alleged murder of a New Zealand tourist.

Supreme Court Justice Debra Mullins is expected to rule today whether Tostee should walk free following a bail hearing on Tuesday.

Tostee, 28, was charged in August with murdering 26-year-old Warriena Wright, who plunged to her death from his 14th-floor apartment balcony in Surfers Paradise.

The pair had met hours earlier via the mobile dating application Tinder.

Crown prosecutor Ben Power alleges although Tostee was inside the apartment when Ms Wright fell, he committed a life-threatening act by assaulting her and locking her on his balcony, causing her to fear for her life and try to escape.

Mr Power argued there was a strong risk Tostee would flee with the threat of a mandatory 20-year prison sentence looming.

But Tostee has vowed to clear his name and if released his lawyer says he will abstain from alcohol, stay off Tinder and live with his parents.

They have pledged to pay a $200,000 surety.

Defence barrister Soraya Ryan argued the case was weak and its high profile meant Tostee couldn't flee from authorities.

Justice Mullins is expected to deliver her decision at 9.15am.
