Further charge for accused killer
A Gold Coast man accused of killing his ex-partner has also been charged for causing the death of the woman's unborn child.
Brock Wall, 34, is facing a charge of murder and a further charge of breaching a domestic violence order after Brazilian woman Fabiana Palhares died from head injuries suffered during a brutal assault at her Varsity Lakes home on Monday.
Ms Palhares was 10 weeks pregnant.
On Wednesday police confirmed they have also charged Wall with one count of unlawful assault of a pregnant woman in addition to his existing charges.
The extra charge had been alluded to during a brief mention of Wall's case at Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Donna Minns argued for an extended period for the disclosure of evidence briefs to be prepared as a charge relating to the unborn child was likely to be laid.
Ms Palhares' brother is reportedly travelling from Brazil to the Gold Coast.
Outside court on Tuesday, friends of Ms Palhares described her as a community leader who used her cleaning business to find employment for local Brazilian ex-patriots.
The Gold Coast's Brazilian community is expected to arrange a memorial for Ms Palhares at a later date after her brother arrives.
