Strangers donate to family of Brit 'hero'

Strangers moved by the heroic actions of a British man who died after trying to save another traveller during the Townsville hostel stabbing are digging deep to help his grieving family.

Tom Jackson, 30, died in hospital on Tuesday, almost a week after he was stabbed while trying to save fellow Brit Mia Ayliffe-Chung, who died in the Home Hill attack despite his efforts.

A crowdfunding page set up to help Mr Jackson's family with his medical expenses is now a fund for his funeral costs, and so far has raised more than $16,300.
