Friend wore police wiretap to gain confession about baby death

A friend secretly recorded a conversation with a Brisbane mother to try to get a confession about how her baby really died, a trial has heard.
Ashleigh Watterson has pleaded not guilty to allegations she deliberately obstructed her daughter Sarah's breathing on two occasions in late 2010.
Sarah died from undetermined causes in March 2012, aged 21 months.
The Brisbane Supreme Court heard on Wednesday that Watterson's friend Sarah Ward wore a wire provided by police in October 2013 in the hope of recording a confession.
"I want justice for Sarah," Ms Ward said.
Ms Ward said Watterson never explicitly said she physically harmed the child but did claim responsibility for her death.
"She said she did it three or four times," Ms Ward said.
The trial last week heard Watterson confessed in August 2013 but her defence team argue it cannot be relied upon because it came from a "disordered mind".
"I never wanted to hurt (Sarah) but at those events, I feel I was possessed," Watterson said in a signed police statement shown to the jury.
"I feel that the devil attacked and made me do things."
The trial continues before Justice Glenn Martin.
