Veteran Queensland newsreader Frank Warrick has died aged 76.

Mr Warrick died early this morning surrounded by family after a five-year battle with dementia.

Queensland politicians and journalists have paid tribute to the television legend, including Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

Ms Palaszczuk said the former 9News presenter and weatherman was a "welcome guest in thousands of Queensland homes" through his 40-year-career in radio and television.

"His love for this state was on show … especially the part he loved best, Queensland," Premier Palaszczuk said on the floor of parliament this morning.

"Our sympathies of this house go to Frank's wife Lyn and their family."

Meanwhile, State Opposition Leader David Crisafulli stated that Mr Warrick would be remembered as a television giant.

"He was a consummate professional who brought some of the biggest stories into the living rooms of Queenslanders for over 40 years," he said on Twitter.

"My condolences go to his family at this very sad time."

9News Queensland's State Political Reporter Lane Calcutt remembered Mr Warrick as a "pro".

"Frank was a TV legend before I joined the Nine newsroom and his legend was justified," Calcutt said.

"A thorough pro who told a story, and delivered the news with authority but a calmness that audiences trusted," he added.

"A journo through and through who was at home in the field or the studio."

Mr Warrick began his career in radio in Toowoomba in the early 1980s before making the transition to Brisbane television.

He became a staple throughout multiple stints at 9News Queensland, including being lead presenter from 1983-85 and the early 2000s.
