Ex-union boss quits Qld Labor party

A former union boss accused of billing the building of his luxury Brisbane home to an unrelated project has quit the Queensland Labor Party.

One-time CFMEU president David Hanna resigned on Thursday after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealed Labor was taking disciplinary action against him, a spokesman for the party confirmed.

Mr Hanna is being probed by the trade unions royal commission about work on his home at Cornubia, south of Brisbane, being billed to Mirvac's Orion retail development at Springfield shopping centre.

He is due to front the commission on Friday.

Key witness and Mirvac employee Mat McAllum has already told the royal commission he remembered having a discussion with his boss about the Orion project funding Mr Hanna's home.

"Unfortunately in the building industry it's common practice a lot of times," he told the inquiry.

Ms Palaszczuk told parliament on Thursday the Queensland Labor Party had started disciplinary proceedings against Mr Hanna.

"And that is the right and correct thing to do," she said.
