Five children burned in Qld homes
Five children have been burned by hot water in southeast Queensland homes in 24 hours, prompting a safety reminder from paramedics.
The youngsters, aged from seven months to 11 years, all suffered varying degrees of burns or scalding between Tuesday and Wednesday night.
The worst case was a seven-month-old baby boy from the Sunshine Coast who was airlifted to hospital on Tuesday night with burns to 30 per cent of his body.
The Queensland Ambulance Service's Tony Hucker said parents needed to stay vigilant around the home.
"We need to make sure little ones are nowhere near hot containers, whether that be pots and pans on the stove or even hot cups of coffee that may be sitting on the table," he said.
He said cool running water was the best tonic for any accidental burns.
"It's great for the pain and actually stops the burning process, we should do that for 10 minutes or so."
