Bushfire contained near Townsville

Firefighters have managed to control a large bushfire which was threatening homes near Townsville.

Residents in the area of the Pinnacles, Round Mountain had been urged to enact their bushfire plans on Sunday afternoon as crews scrambled to contain the fast-moving blaze.

Authorities say the fire is now burning in inaccessible land and poses no threat to property.

Crews from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will continue to monitor the blaze overnight.
