Fire destroys classroom at Qld school

Police believe a fire that destroyed a classroom at a Sunshine Coast school was deliberately lit.

The blaze broke out at Sienna Catholic College at Sippy Downs about 2am on Monday.

The fire was contained to one room.

It was one of three suspicious early morning fires across Queensland.

A Townsville family was forced to flee their home after their car burst into flames in the garage around 1.30am (AEST) on Monday.

The fire spread to the remainder of the house but the occupants were able to escape safely.

A crime scene has been established at the home.

Police are also investigating a third fire that tore through a house at Beenleigh, south of Brisbane, overnight.

Police said the two-storey property had been vacant for several years.
