Bushfire downgrade but Qld still on alert

Two large bushfires that have been burning in Queensland are no longer considered a risk to properties but firefighters will remain on watch overnight.

A blaze near the small town of Hivesville, west of Gympie, has been controlled by water bombers and is now contained.

Authorities earlier warned some property could be lost and issued a watch and act message later downgraded to the lower advice level, but this was cancelled on Saturday night.

Local crews will remain on scene throughout the night to monitor the fire, which broke out around 3.40pm on Saturday.

"Water bombing operations have ceased and there is no threat to property at this time," a spokesman for Queensland Fire and Rescue Services said.

An advice warning for a blaze near the Darling Downs town of Moonie has also now been cancelled.

The fire, which is burning 20km east-southeast of Moonie, north of Goondiwindi on the Queensland/NSW border, began on Tuesday.

Fires continue to burn elsewhere in the state as some regions swelter through an extreme heatwave, with temperatures set to reach 40 degrees in Brisbane on Sunday and higher in western districts.

Earlier, authorities said fire bans would be imposed from midnight in four Queensland regions: Brisbane, South Eastern, South Western and North Coast.
