Fiery truck crash shuts busy Qld highway

A truck driver has escaped with minor injuries after his vehicle rolled and burst into flames on a busy southeast Queensland motorway.

The Pacific Motorway has been thrown into chaos after the fiery crash, which occurred about 1.45pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

Pictures from the scene show the truck on its side and engulfed in flames on the middle of a bridge across the Nerang River.

One northbound lane has been reopened since the accident but all traffic south has been stopped and is backed up about 10km to Helensvale.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman says the driver suffered only minor soft tissue injuries and was treated at the scene.

Firefighters have extinguished the fire though the wrecked truck remains on the bridge across all three southbound lanes.

Police say no one else was harmed in the accident and are investigating the cause of the crash.
