Nicholls calls for LNP unity in Canberra

Queensland LNP leader Tim Nicholls has told his Canberra colleagues in no uncertain terms to get their act together and stop talking about a possible split between the two parties.

His comments followed reports on Wednesday that federal Coalition ministers and senators believed a demerger of the Liberals and Nationals was one of the only ways to stop the rising vote of One Nation.

But Mr Nicholls said it was nothing more than "naval gazing, introspection and self-reflection" and it had to stop.

"The LNP up here at a state level is totally united and I've got a simple message for members down in Canberra: Get your act together, stop talking about yourselves and concentrate on the voters," he said on Wednesday.

Mr Nicholls said he also didn't support the idea of a debranding, which was floated by federal LNP member George Christensen.

Mr Christensen, who quit as the Nationals' chief party whip on Tuesday, told The Financial Review there was a growing view among MPs that the use of separate logos on voting papers could help the chances of the two parties in Queensland.

But Mr Nicholls, who supported the merger of the two parties, said all state members would go into the next election under the LNP banner.

"This is emerging entirely out of Canberra," he said.

"Stop talking about yourselves and start thinking about the voters.

"This is the sort of stuff that voters just hate."
