Faulty Gold Coast roller-coaster to reopen

A roller-coaster that lost a wheel mid-ride at a Gold Coast theme park has been fixed and is set to reopen before Christmas.

The Green Lantern at Warner Bros Movie World, which measures 33 metres at its highest point and boasts the steepest drop of any roller-coaster in the Southern Hemisphere, came to an abrupt halt in March.

Seven people were stranded in a lower section of the track while another car, carrying six people, hung precariously on a higher level, after a malfunction.

It took firefighters three-and-a-half hours to free all of the riders but no one was hurt.

Park chief executive Tim Fisher said on Friday that after hundreds of hours of testing, the roller-coaster had been deemed safe and would be reopened before Christmas.

The fault was caused by a "design issue" with the wheel system that had now been fixed and extra safety features added, Mr Fisher said.
