One dead, one injured in incident at Queensland mine

One worker has died and another has been taken to hospital after an incident at a central Queensland coal mine early this morning.
Queensland Ambulance confirmed they were called to Peak Downs Mine at 4.34am.

Paramedics treated one man with life-threatening injuries, who died at the scene.
A second man involved in the incident was taken to hospital with leg injuries in a stable condition.
Queensland Ambulance said a third person at the site had been flown to a different hospital in a stable condition after an unrelated medical episode.
Resources Safety and Health Queensland chief executive Claire Cooper said preliminary information suggested two vehicles had collided.
“RSHQ has deployed investigators and coal inspectors to site and is working closely with Queensland Police Service and Queensland Ambulance Service to respond to the incident,” she said.
“Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last issued his condolences to the dead worker’s loved ones and others affected.
“Details are still coming to hand, but my thoughts are with the friends, work mates, family of those involved, and the emergency services who attended,” he said.
“Everyone deserves to go to work and come home safely.”
Police have confirmed the forensic crash unit will investigate.
Peak Downs Mine, an open-cut coking coal mine, has been in operation since 1972 and is owned by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance.
