Alleged Bandido on murder charge

An alleged Bandido who temporarily eluded authorities in Serbia before being extradited to Australia has faced court over an execution-style shooting.

Bogdan Cuic, 28, fronted the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday on one count of murder.

It came after he was arrested in Serbia last year before being extradited to Australia, which doesn't share an extradition treaty with the European country.

He was remanded in custody and won't be required to appear at the next court date of June 13.

Speaking before the court appearance, Acting Detective Superintendent Damien Hansen said Cuic left Australia a day after Jei "Jack" Lee was shot dead outside an Eight Mile Plains shopping centre in April 2012.

Police allege he was a member of the Bandidos before he left the country.

Det Supt Hansen also said authorities surveilling Cuic lost track of him when the man went into hiding, before he was eventually arrested.

Det Supt Hansen described the murder investigation as very difficult and said he'd never before been involved in an extradition with a country Australia didn't share a treaty with.

Asked if the Australian citizen had effectively fled the scene of the crime, Det Supt Hansen said: "It was a sudden departure".

Outside court, defence lawyer Jim Coburn said it was too early to say if his client would contest the charge.

He said questions about how Cuic was coping since being extradited were "probably inappropriate" given the nature of the charge.

"The only thing I can say is he is somewhat concerned so far as the reporting and any effect it might have so far as an impact on an impartial jury moving forward," Mr Coburn said

Det Supt Hansen praised the Serbian authorities, who helped maintain surveillance over the man while he was overseas, for their assistance.

"The investigators never gave up," he said.

He said the deceased man's parents were relieved by the developments but well aware of the lengthy court process ahead.

Detectives have also charged alleged Bandidos associate Marko Cokara, 25, with murder earlier this month.
