Evacuations flagged as Qld bushfire burns

Some residents have been told to prepare to leave homes west of Bundaberg as a large and erratic bushfire continues to burn.

The fire has so far burnt through about 400 hectares of bushland at Doughboy with firefighters warning conditions could quickly worsen on Friday and they may not be able to protect every property.

Residents in the vicinity of Doughboy Road, Nearum Road and Horsecamp Road have been warned to prepare to leave.

Fire crews spent the night backburning with the fire not yet under control.

"The conditions are producing erratic fire and that's making it difficult on the ground to predict where it goes," Bundaberg Rural Fire Service area director Bruce Thompson told ABC radio.

"The winds have been all over the place ... and with the dry conditions it's making things a bit ordinary."

Meanwhile crews are continuing to fight a fire that's been burning for several days at Kurwongbah, north of Brisbane.

Firefighters spent the night shoring up containment lines and may call in water bombers on Friday but at this stage there's no direct threat to property.
