A Royal Australian Navy ship will leave Brisbane on Wednesday to take emergency stores and engineering equipment to cyclone-ravaged north Queensland.

The HMAS Choules will load up at Port of Brisbane before travelling the 1335km to Townsville, where defence personnel will distribute the equipment to areas around Bowen and Proserpine.

It is not yet known when it is expected to arrive.
