Elderly pair 'attacked with pick handle'

Two teenagers accused of using a pick handle to attack an elderly couple on the Gold Coast have been charged with assault.

Police allege an argument broke out between the couple, a 67-year-old man and 62-year-old woman, and two boys on Friday afternoon in the northern suburb of Coombabah.

The man was then punched and hit in the head with a wooden pick handle before the woman was also struck on the arm with it.

The couple were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, have been charged with serious assault and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
