Pair charged over late-night abduction of 'Piggie' the echidna

Two men have now been charged over the late-night abduction of "Piggie" the echidna from a Gold Coast wildlife sanctuary.

Police allege the pair broke into the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday night and made off with the spiny lady.

CCTV captured the alleged theft on camera and police charged a 24-year-old yesterday.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman tonight announce a 25-year-old man had also been charged.

He was tonight charged with receiving tainted property and animal cruelty in relation to the alleged theft of the echidna.

He was also charged with one count each of possession of a drug utensil, possession of a dangerous drug and unlawful possession of a weapon and will face Southport Magistrates Court on August 17.

It appears the alleged echid-nappers had a change of heart following the break in and pushed her back under the sanctuary's fence last night.

It is understood Piggie is fine and now recovering from her ordeal.
