Eagle attack victim recovering at home

A Gold Coast wildlife worker treated in hospital after she was attacked by an eagle is recovering at home.

Shannon Maguire, 30, was going about her work in the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary eagle enclosure on Tuesday morning when she was attacked by one of the park's wedge-tailed eagles.

She suffered cuts to her forehead, lips and chin from the bird's sharp talons and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary senior vet Dr Michael Payne said it was an unfortunate accident involving an experienced staff member.

Ms Maguire is recovering at home after spending nearly six hours in hospital.

The wedge-tailed eagle is Australia's largest bird of prey, with a wingspan as wide as 2.8 metres.
