Drivers ripped off by Brisbane parks: RACQ

Brisbane motorists are still forking out too much for short-term, off-street parking, Queensland's peak motoring body says.

In fact, the RACQ says Brisbane drivers pay the highest rates for parking prices in CBD areas anywhere in the country.

Spokesman Paul Turner said the city's average one-hour, off-street weekday parking charges had more than quadrupled since 2001 to hit $27.63.

That's just three cents more than Sydney's rate, but more than $8 ahead of what Melbourne drivers pay.

"The most expensive maximum daily rate for Brisbane is $89, which we found at three CBD parking stations," he said.

To bring prices down, motorists should ditch expensive carparks for Brisbane City Council-owned alternatives, he said.

Mr Turner said this would ideally put pressure on the overpriced stations to lower their prices.
