'This is the drink driving of this era': Queensland government's warning
More than 8000 Queenslanders have got warning letters for using their phones while driving since July.
But if they had been caught after November 1, the state would have brought in more than $8.8 million in fines.
Of those getting the warning letters, 681 drivers were caught for repeat offences.

One person was busted using their phone while driving on 13 separate occasions.
"Thirteen notices in the mail and if the message doesn't get through then, the fine will certainly be very painful," Transport Minister Mark Bailey said.
"We've got to deal with it, this is the drink driving of this era.
"Whether you're in Cairns, Coolangatta, Toowoomba, or Brisbane, these units are going to be everywhere."

Last year 23 died in car accidents in Queensland because of distracted driving.
Another 43 died who were not wearing seatbelts.
