Dinos roar back to digital life in Qld

The bright sparks at the Queensland University of Technology have found a flame-retardant way to bring dinosaurs back to life.

They're called "digital dinos" and they're the technical handiwork of a group of Cube Studio video game developers.

But before they were let loose, the life-sized projections were evaluated by a real-life palaeontologist for scientific accuracy.

"This is a childhood dream come to reality, to see these animals at full size in this projection space," Dr Scott Hocknull says.

The line-up is a mix of international favourites such as stegosaurus and triceratops as well as Australian varieties, including the muttaburrasaurus.

Each digital dinosaur has also been imbued with artificial intelligence so it can decide when to move, graze, rest - even hunt.

So while Clive Palmer mourns his 10-metre T-Rex Jeff - who met a fiery end last year after an electrical fault - visitors to QUT's Garden Point campus will be able to enjoy with a host of animated beasts.
