Court to hear Morcombe killer's appeal

Daniel Morcombe's killer will try to have his life sentence overturned on appeal.

Brett Peter Cowan was sentenced in March to life with a non-parole period of 20 years after a jury found him guilty of abducting and murdering the 13-year-old Sunshine Coast schoolboy.

Cowan, 45, in April filed a notice of appeal against his murder conviction in April.

It will be heard in the Court of Appeal on Wednesday in Brisbane.

Lawyers for Cowan are expected to argue the jury should have never heard his confession to undercover police.

He was convicted in part because of a recorded confession he made to officers masquerading as gangsters before leading them to Daniel's burial site.

Lawyers are also expected to criticise what they say was biased media coverage of the trial.

Daniel, 13, was abducted in 2003 on Queensland's Sunshine Coast while waiting for a bus to go shopping for Christmas presents.
