A Gold Coast restaurant has put a sweet twist on the way it serves coffee.

In a Queensland first, Salt Meats Cheese in Surfers Paradise has started using waffle cones to serve its hot beverages.

The cones are custom made with four layers of thick chocolate to prevent liquid from seeping out.

Waitress Sarah Clark told 9NEWS the restaurant added the drink to its menu last Friday, and it has become a popular order with customers.

“Coffee in a cone is sort of ‘dessert meets your morning coffee'. So, you can have a cappuccino, espresso…even a hot chocolate for kids,” Ms Clark said.

“We’re always looking at kind of new launches and getting in first with these sorts of things.”

It’ll cost you more than a regular latte in a takeaway cup though - one coffee in a cone costs $6.
